Hair Loss Care Medical, Not Cosmetic: Experts

Concerns were also raised over misinformation and unsafe practices promoted through social media, with calls for stricter regulation and greater public awareness.

Hyderabad: Dermatologists at the FUE Asia Regional Conference 2026 ehre said advanced hair loss treatments such as medical trichology and regenerative trichology were gaining wider acceptance among patients.

Conference organising president Dr Rajetha Damisetty noted a clear shift towards evidence‑based, non‑surgical and regenerative therapies for managing hair loss. She stressed that medical trichology was crucial in diagnosing underlying conditions such as hormonal imbalance, thyroid disorders, PCOS, insulin resistance and nutritional deficiencies, which often manifest as hair fall.

Experts highlighted that regenerative trichology has moved beyond conventional platelet‑rich plasma (PRP) therapy to include advanced techniques such as bio‑activated PRP, exosomes, stromal vascular fraction and nano‑fat therapies. These methods harness growth factors from fat cells to stimulate hair regrowth and improve scalp health.

The conference is being attended by delegates and faculty from over 20 countries, with discussions centred on scientific advances, patient safety and ethical medical practice in hair restoration. Speakers reiterated that hair loss treatments and transplantation are medical procedures, not cosmetic services, and emphasised that dermatologists are the qualified specialists for hair and scalp disorders.

Concerns were also raised over misinformation and unsafe practices promoted through social media, with calls for stricter regulation and greater public awareness.
