Gurramguda Case Win in SC Significant, Will Save All Forest Land: PCCF

Dr C. Suvarna, principal chief conservator of forests (head of forest force), said it was not an easy task to pursue the case with determination over two decades.

Hyderabad: The forest department has described as “very significant”, the Supreme Court judgment of last Thursday that declared as forest land, 102 acres in Gurramguda in Rangareddy district that was being claimed as privately owned.

Dr C. Suvarna, principal chief conservator of forests (head of forest force), said it was not an easy task to pursue the case with determination over two decades. The success was a testament to the department’s willingness to fight hard over a very long period to protect the state’s forests.

She was speaking at an event at KBR National Park after felicitating officials from the forest department, and from the Telangana State Archives & Research Institute who were instrumental in pursuing the case.

Thanking the Chief Minister and the forest minister for their support, Dr Suvarna said the department was particularly grateful to former chief conservator of forests K. Buchi Rami Reddy, who at the age of 95, tirelessly advised and worked with department officials on the case.

Rangareddy district, she said had similar issues as that of Gurramguda land and that the department was following up on every case.

Those felicitated for working on the case, in addition to Buchi Rami Reddy, were forest beat officer M. Mahender, deputy range officer B. Kasna, forest range officers K. Srinivas Reddy and J. Vishnuvardhan.

Others were Telangana Archives director Zareena Parveen and deputy director Abdul Raqueeb, deputy conservators of forests M. Raja Ramana Reddy, D. Sudhakar Reddy and M. Venumadhav; retired conservator of forests D. Nagabhushanam, and Dr Priyanka Varghese, chief conservator of forests incharge of Charminar circle under which the Gurramguda fell.
