Group Clash Incidents Increase In Karimnagar
Group clashes have increased in Karimnagar amid old rivalries taking on a political colour, with BRS and BJP activists involved in recent incidents.
Group clash incidents have increased in Karimnagar town. Though old rivalry is the main reason, they are taking on a political colour with the involvement of some parties and activists.
BRS activist Guguloth Srikanth received stabbing injuries in a group clash in Kishan Nagar on Sunday night. Srikanth and his brother were attacked with knives and broken beer bottles by his rival group.
Police arrested seven persons, including the 29th division corporator Somidi Venu Prasad (BJP) in connection with the attack.
Venu Prasad was also included as first accused in the case as Srikanth informed the police that the corporator was behind the attack. He also informed the cops that he has an old rivalry with Venu.
Ten days ago, a similar group clash took place in Godamgadda area wherein a youth sustained injuries. Activists of BRS and BJP were involved in the clash.
Notably, BJP workers attacked Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar’s camp office on May 7, in protest against Huzurabad legislator Padi Koushik Reddy’s derogatory comments against Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Besides the attack on the camp office, Koushik Reddy’s vehicle was also damaged.
The attack took place while the Huzurabad MLA was addressing a press conference inside the office.
So, the political slugfest continued between the BJP and BRS parties in the town.
Strengthening the argument, MLA Kamalakar said that the Kisannagar incident might not have occurred if Sanjay Kumar reacted to the earlier incident in which his camp office was attacked by BJP workers.
Reacting to the MLA's comments, BJP leader and Karimnagar deputy mayor Sunil Rao criticised Kamalakar for trying to gain political mileage by attributing the Kisannagar incident to the BJP.
He felt it was not proper on the part of Kamalakar to politicise a personal rivalry and group clash.
Commenting on the Kisannagar incident, senior Congress leader and former SUDA chairman Komatireddy Narender Reddy said both BRS and BJP were trying to create unrest in the town. He urged Union minister Sanjay Kumar to condemn the attack.
