Gram Panchayat Poll Results Will Repeat in 2029 Assembly Elections: Revanth

The Chief Minister posed a challenge to the former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) for a debate in the Assembly on the issue related to Krishna water dispute

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy here on Thursday said that the Congress achieved excellent results in the Gram Panchayat (GP) elections that were conducted in three phases in the State.

The same results will be repeated in the 2029 Assembly elections as well, he said while interacting with media persons at his residence in Jubilee Hills. He thanked all the Congress workers who worked hard for the party's victory.

Stating that the elections in more than 12,000 Gram Panchayats in the State were held peacefully and democratically, the Chief Minister congratulated officials for conducting the elections smoothly. Out of 12,702 Panchayats, Congress won 7,527 seats and Congress rebels won 808 seats in these elections.

In all, 66 percent of the results were secured by Congress and Congress rebels emerging victorious in 8,335 Panchayats. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and BJP contested these elections as an alliance and BRS won 3511 and BJP won 710.

Both BRS and BJP alliance won a total of 4,221 panchayats (33 percent). About 146 gram panchayats (one percent) were won by CPI, CPM and others.

“People supported the Congress in the elections held two years after the government was formed. We consider the results of Panchayat elections as a verdict on our two-year rule. As elections were held in 94 assembly constituencies, the Congress won in 87 constituencies.

On seeing the results, the BRS leaders termed them as a miracle. “We are happy and the same miracle will repeat in the 2029 elections,” he said. Even after the election results, the Opposition has not yet lost its arrogance.

At least now, the Opposition leaders must respect the public verdict and extend cooperation to the State government. Revanth Reddy said the reason for the Congress victory in the elections was successful implementation of various welfare schemes including issuing ration cards, distribution of fine rice, Rythu Bharosa scheme and Indiramma houses for the benefit of the people.

Referring to the Krishna water dispute, the Chief Minister posed a challenge to the former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) for a debate in the Assembly on the issue.

“We will expose the BRS in the Assembly with evidence if KCR is ready for a debate on the issue,” he said. Asked about the action to be initiated in the Formula E race case, he said the State government was waiting for the response from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on IAS officer’s Avind Kumar’s case.
