Govt Will Take Measures to Protect People from El Niño: Ponnam

Hyderabad: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar here on Friday visited the historic Sri Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad and offered special prayers as part of ongoing Dasara Navaratri festivities. He prayed to the goddess for the prosperity of Telangana and abundant rains
“We prayed to the goddess to ensure that all the people of the state are happy and prosperous and that no calamities or accidents occur,” he said. The State government is on alert to face the natural disasters that may arise due to the impact of El Nino.
“We are holding meetings with officials of the relevant departments and taking necessary steps so that the people do not face any difficulties. We are alerting officials to create awareness among the people on issues such as water consumption, electricity consumption, etc,” he explained.
The Central government should cooperate with the state to face natural disasters. “We will soon hold a meeting with all political parties and meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Ministers concerned to seek cooperation for the state,” the Minister said.
Many countries in the world are facing similar challenges. At this juncture, it is not right to politicize natural disasters. All parties should work together for the safety of the people and the welfare of the state beyond politics,’ Prabhakar said.
“As the people of Hyderabad have immense faith in the goddesses, we hope that the blessings of Ujjain Mahankali, Balkampet Yellamma and other goddesses will bring good to the people,” he said.
“We have prayed to the goddesses to ensure that the people do not face any problems due to the effects of El Nino this year. We will conduct more pujas next year. The government's goal is to ensure safety and welfare of the people of Telangana. The government will take all measures to deal with natural disasters,” he added.
Apart from Prabhakar, Labour Minister G Vivek Venkat Swamy, AICC In-charge Secretary Sachin Sawant, MLA N. Sri Ganesh, visited the goddess in the form of Sri Saraswati at the Sri Ujjaini Mahankali temple and offered special prayers.
