Govt to give houses to all: Ponguleti

Hyderabad: Housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government had resolved to provide Indiramma houses to all deserving women. The beneficiaries will be identified by an application to be unveiled by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday.

In a release the minister said, “The process of zeroing on the beneficiaries will start from December 6. To bring transparency in the selection of beneficiaries and get rid of political interference a mobile application has been designed. It will have details of the family members, information on the land on which the house has to be built etc. Indiramma House committees have been formed to build these houses.”
The houses sanctioned in the name of the women will get `5 lakh as financial assistance. The amount will be deposited into the beneficiary account directly sans any middlemen. The houses built over 400 sq. ft will have kitchen and toilet facilities.
The government has done away with the contract system which was in vogue under the BRS. Beneficiaries can construct their houses in space not less than 400 sq.ft. A model Indiramma house will be constructed in every mandal centre. We are thus keeping our electoral promise, he informed.
In the first phase 3,500 to 4,000 houses will be constructed per constituency to achieve a target of five lakh houses. Houses will firstly be built on land owned by people and then the government will give land and also construct houses for beneficiaries. The housing department has been revived by recalling employees who were transferred to other departments for this purpose recently, the release said.
Of the 23,85,188 houses that were sanctioned in 2006-07 under the YSR regime 19,32,001 were completed. But the remaining 4,53,187 which were under different stages of construction were left unfinished by the BRS regime, he said.
