Govt Stands by Late RTC Driver’s Family, Issues ₹90.85 Lakh Cheque to Kin
The Telangana government handed over ₹90.85 lakh to the family of late RTC driver Kola Shankar and reiterated its commitment to employee welfare, a job for his son and housing support.
Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday handed over a cheque of ₹90,85,500 to the family of RTC driver Kola Shankar, who died after attempting self-immolation during an indefinite strike by transport employees. Shankar’s wife Hemalatha, son Hemanth and daughter Shalini received the cheque.
The programme was held at RTC Kala Bhavan and attended by RTC managing director Nagi Reddy and senior officials.
Addressing the gathering, Prabhakar said the government’s three priorities were protecting the corporation, ensuring passenger convenience and safeguarding employees’ welfare.” “When Shankar was hospitalised, we visited him late at night to check on his condition,” Prabhakar said.
He added, “We will act on the decision taken by the four ministers and officials and begin the merger process after the elections. Shankar Goud’s son Hemanth will be given a job, and a house has been sanctioned for the family.”
