Governor, CJ Highlight Citizen’s Duty on Constitution Day

On the occasion of Constitution Day, the Governor delivered a formal address at the Telangana High Court, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949.

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor, Jishnu Dev Varma, noted that the Indian Constitution is the living soul of the nation’s democracy, guiding collective aspirations and safeguarding the rights of every citizen. He said that for more than seven decades, the Constitution has upheld the spirit of unity in diversity, enabling India to emerge as the world’s largest and most vibrant democracy.

On the occasion of Constitution Day, the Governor delivered a formal address at the Telangana High Court, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution on November 26, 1949. The programme, held on the High Court premises, was attended by the Chief Justice and Judges of the High Court, senior judicial officers, state law officers, members of the Bar, and other invited officials.

The Governor highlighted the pivotal role of the judiciary in protecting fundamental rights and ensuring access to justice. He added that Constitution Day serves as a reminder of the duties of both citizens and institutions in strengthening democratic governance.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s KYC mantra, “Know Your Constitution”, Governor Varma called upon every Indian, especially the youth, to understand, internalise and live by constitutional principles. He said this year's Constitution Day resonates deeply with the spirit of Amrit Kaal.

Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh said the spirit of the Constitution must not remain confined to institutions or courtrooms; it must reach every person, every community, and every household. A Constitution fulfills its purpose only when its values are understood, embraced and internalised by ordinary citizens, farmers, workers, students, homemakers, professionals and all who form the living fabric of the republic. He concluded by stating that Constitution Day is not merely ceremonial; it is an everyday duty to uphold constitutional morality.
