Governor Appreciates EAGLE For Preventing Drug Abuse
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla praised Telangana’s EAGLE initiative and urged students to stay away from drugs and focus on education and skills.
Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Tuesday appreciated Telangana government’s EAGLE initiative and efforts of police in preventing drug abuse. He welcomed the establishment of anti-drug committees and Prahari Clubs in educational institutions to create awareness among students in this regard.
The Governor participated as chief guest at an Anti-Drug Awareness programme at the Bhooma Reddy Convention Centre as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
Speaking on the occasion, he asked young people to stay away from narcotic substances and channel their energy towards education, sports, skill development, innovation, and nation-building.
Shiv Pratap Shukla said combating drug abuse requires not only stringent legal action but also sustained efforts to create awareness, build confidence among young people, and empower them to make informed choices. He recalled administering a pledge for a drug-free life at an event held at LB Stadium in Hyderabad on June 19 in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and members of the state cabinet as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Jan Andolan.
"The energy, talent, and dreams of our youth are the greatest assets of the nation. Under no circumstances should they become victims of drugs,” the Governor told the students.
Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s call to “Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reached,” he urged young people to draw inspiration and develop strong determination and self-discipline.
Shiv Pratap Shukla attended a farmer interaction programme organised by the National Turmeric Board (NTB) in Nizamabad. Further, he launched the “Sunahari Mitti Abhiyan” and a market linkage programme.
Those present included special chief secretary to Governor M. Dana Kishore, National Turmeric Board chairman Palle Ganga Reddy, MP D. Arvind, MLAs Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta, Paidi Rakesh Reddy, Nizamabad mayor K. Uma Rani, NTB secretary N. Bhavani Sri, Nizamabad district in-charge collector Bhavesh Mishra, and Nizamabad commissioner of police P. Sai Chaitanya.
Shiv Pratap Shukla underlined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has undertaken several initiatives to make agriculture more remunerative and improve the livelihoods of farmers. “Turmeric is not merely an agricultural commodity. It is deeply intertwined with India’s culture, traditions, Ayurveda, spirituality, and everyday life,” he pointed out, emphasising that ensuring remunerative prices for turmeric growers and strengthening the global identity of Indian turmeric should remain key priorities.
Describing the Sunahari Mitti Abhiyan as a forward-looking initiative, the Governor said it would promote natural farming and contribute to exports. There is a growing demand in international markets for residue-free and high-quality turmeric. Greater emphasis on quality would enable farmers to secure better prices and expand their access to overseas markets, he pointed out.
Shiv Pratap Shukla said market linkage initiatives play a crucial role in connecting farmers directly with exporters and making them more responsive to market requirements. Farmers should realise awareness of quality standards and market demand, while FPOs must be provided appropriate guidance and support to establish direct market linkages.
Calling farmers as backbone of the country’s agricultural economy, the Governor asked them to adopt modern technologies, focus on quality production, and strengthen collective marketing mechanisms to improve their incomes and competitiveness.
