Government Aims to Make Telangana HIV-Free: Ponnam Prabhakar
Ponnam said awareness programmes would be conducted across the state for two months, starting from August 12, and urged people to participate in the programmes.
Hyderabad: A massive awareness rally was organised in Hyderabad as part of efforts to create awareness among people about the prevention, early detection and treatment of HIV, AIDS, syphilis and other related diseases.
Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar flagged off the rally at the HMDA Grounds. Around 1,500 people participated in the rally, which was held from the HMDA Grounds to the Necklace Road Railway Station.
Ponnam Prabhakar said the state government, the Health and Medical Department and the Telangana State AIDS Control Society were working together to make Telangana an HIV-free state under the slogan “Be Positive – Stop HIV Positive.”
“Today, we organised a campaign and rally with the aim of making Telangana AIDS-free. Many people participated in the rally, and we hope that Telangana will become AIDS-free in the coming days. We are also working towards building a drug-free and healthy Telangana," Ponnam said.
The Minister said awareness programmes would be conducted across the state for two months, starting from August 12, and urged people to participate in the programmes.
Ponnam said that necessary medical services and treatment were available to prevent the transmission of HIV from mothers living with the virus to their unborn children. He urged people not to panic and advised them to seek accurate information about HIV prevention, testing and treatment.
