Gold Chain Retrieved From Immersed Ganesh Idol
Municipal staff, JCB operator trace ornament after 40-minute search

Hyderabad: A homemaker who accidentally immersed her Ganesh idol with a 50-gram gold chain managed to recover the ornament with the help of municipal staff at Masab Cheruvu in Turkayamjal municipality.
Girija of Hasthinapuram had decorated the idol with a gold chain for the Ganesh Chaturthi puja. On August 30, she, her husband Prasad, a private employee, and two family members reached the 300-acre lake around 8.40 am for immersion of the idol.
After completing the ritual, they returned to their car, but soon realised the ornament had not been removed from the idol.
They rushed back and sought help from Turkayamjal municipal staff, who immediately alerted JCB operator Anjaneyulu. He began retrieving idols from the lake. After nearly 40 minutes and around 10 idols, the family’s idol was located.
“Searching at the right spot was the challenge. Though idols are immersed near the corners, they drift because the lake is over 10 feet deep,” a municipal staffer said. He noted the idol had floated at about six feet depth.
Once the idol was lifted, the family spotted the ornament still intact. They thanked the municipal staff, who in turn asked them to thank the JCB operator for his timely efforts.
