Nalgonda: The officials of the irrigation department on Sunday morning issued the second flood warning at Bhadrachalam in Bhadadri-Kothagudem district after the Godavari river rose to 48 feet, with a discharge of 11.44 lakh cusecs.
Officials attributed the rise in the river water level to the incessant rain in the upper catchment areas. District collector Jitesh V. Patil directed revenue and irrigation officials to remain on high alert and ensure that villagers living along the riverbanks are warned in advance.
Relief centres have been prepared and mapped to vulnerable localities, while flood-prone villages will be shifted to rehabilitation centres if required, he said. Departments have been instructed to work in coordination to provide drinking water, food and medical services to possible flood victims.
The collector urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid venturing into the river, and noted that boating has been banned as a precautionary measure. He urged the people to contact helpline 08743-232444 of the control room set up at the sub-collector’s office in Bhadrachalam for assistance.
