Godavari at 50.8 ft: Second Danger Warning Issued, Officials Urge Caution in Low-Lying Areas
Khammam: The Godavari river is in full spate following heavy rainfall in the upstream regions. Officials issued a second danger warning on Wednesday as the river continued to swell near Bhadrachalam.
By 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the water level at Bhadrachalam stood at 48 feet, and by Thursday it had risen to 50.8 feet, according to reports. The floodwater has reached the Kalyanakatta, submerging electric poles and the steps at the bathing ghat. To prevent water from entering the town, officials have shut the sluice gates at Karakatta.
Meanwhile, an inflow of 9.88 lakh cusecs was recorded at Dhavaleswaram, with an equal amount being released downstream. The first danger warning remains in effect at the project, where the water level has reached 11.9 feet.
Disaster Management Agency MD Prakhar Jain has urged residents of Alluri Seetharama Raju, East Godavari, Kakinada, Eluru, and West Godavari districts to remain vigilant. People living in low-lying areas along the river basin have been advised to take necessary precautions.
