Godavari Protection Wall Partially Collapses At Bhadrachalam

Officials of irrigation department rushed to the spot and took up temporary measures by bridging the gap with sand-filled bags. However, the officials made it clear that there was no danger with the partial collapse of the protection wall.

Nalgonda: The embankment (kara katta) built along the Godavari river has partially collapsed for a few metres between the Bridge Centre and Kotha Colony in Bhadrachalam due to recent heavy rains, raising concerns about its stability.

Officials of irrigation department rushed to the spot and took up temporary measures by bridging the gap with sand-filled bags. However, the officials made it clear that there was no danger with the partial collapse of the protection wall. The incident occured while the district authorities were chalking out plans to prevent flooding in residential areas of Bhadrachalam, like the last year's inundation.

Currently, the water level in Godavari was recorded at 19 ft. The first warning will be issued when the water level reaches 43 ft.

The irrigation officials were monitoring the water level in the river time to time. The karakatta was built about 20 years ago. Several colonies were submerged during last year's Godavari flooding caused by heavy rains.
