GMC Jagtial Students Call Off Protest After Agreement

The agreement was signed on October 9 between the chief engineer of the roads and buildings department: Reports

HYDERABAD: Students of government medical college, Jagtial, called off their protest on Friday after signing a written agreement with Telangana government authorities setting deadlines for completing and handing over pending campus infrastructure.

The agreement was signed on October 9 between the chief engineer of the roads and buildings department, Vensa Infrastructure Limited and student representatives. The students said the agreement addressed their demands for essential facilities and provided a schedule for their handover.

Under the agreement, boys’ and girls’ hostel facilities must be handed over to the college administration by November 25, 2026. The permanent college building, excluding the administrative D block, must be completed and handed over by December 9, including lecture halls with centralised air-conditioning and fully equipped departmental laboratories.

The sports ground is scheduled to be completed by the first week of January 2027. The remaining campus infrastructure, including the administrative block, internal roads, drainage system and landscaping, must be completed by the second week of February 2027.

Announcing the withdrawal of the protest, the student body said the written assurances and deadlines had prompted it to call off the strike and resume academic and clinical duties with immediate effect.

The students had protested over delays in completing the permanent college and hostel buildings and the lack of essential campus facilities. Their agitation sought a clear, time-bound commitment from the authorities rather than further assurances without deadlines.

The agreement follows discussions between students and government officials over the pending works. Earlier reports said the protest began on October 7 and continued into Thursday, with students seeking the completion of hostels, academic buildings, playgrounds and other basic amenities.

The student body thanked fellow students for maintaining unity and discipline during the peaceful protest and acknowledged the support of T-JUDA, HRDA and government officials.
