Gismat Jail Mandi Pulled Up Over Food Safety Violations

Officials issued a show-cause notice to the establishment. Improperly stored food items were discarded immediately and directions were issued for rectification of the hygiene and safety violations.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad CMC Food Safety teams on Wednesday inspected Gismat Jail Mandi at Madeenaguda and found multiple hygiene and food safety violations, including improper storage of chicken, mutton and fish, and absence of a valid FSSAI licence.

During the inspection, officials found raw and semi-prepared non-vegetarian items without labels. Pest control records, water testing reports and medical records of food handlers were not produced before the inspection team.

The dishwashing area was found unhygienic, with stagnant water and food waste, while raw material storage containers were untidy. Food handlers were working without aprons and hand gloves. Iron knives were in use and chopping boards were found in poor condition. Poor lighting was also noticed in the kitchen and store room areas.

In the hygiene assessment, the establishment scored 43 marks out of 102, securing a hygiene percentage of 43 per cent.
