Consecutive incidents of girl students leaving residential educational institutions in Mahabubabad and Warangal have raised concerns over hostel security and student supervision.
Back-to-back incidents involving girl students leaving residential educational institutions have raised fresh concerns over security and supervision in government-run hostels across the region.
Earlier this week, two students of the Telangana State Tribal Welfare Women's Residential Degree College in Mahabubabad district went missing after leaving the campus. Following a complaint by the college management, Mahbubabad Town police registered a case and launched an investigation. By analysing CCTV footage, mobile phone data and other technical evidence, special police teams traced the students within 24 hours and reunited them safely with their families. The swift action by the Mahbubabad police drew appreciation.
In a similar incident, three girl students of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Shayampet in Warangal district allegedly scaled the hostel compound wall and left the premises late on Friday night.
Police launched a search after being alerted. However, the school management later traced the students in the vicinity of the institution. The girls reportedly told staff they were unhappy staying in the hostel. Following counselling, they were persuaded to return safely to the institution.
The successive incidents have renewed concerns over student safety, hostel supervision and security arrangements in residential educational institutions. Parents have urged the Education Department and school managements to strengthen CCTV surveillance, regulate visitor access and improve monitoring of student movement to prevent such incidents from recurring.
