Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl drowned in Saroornagar Lake after accidentally falling in it on Monday evening. The girl’s family resides near the lake.
The girl’s body was fished out from the lake on Tuesday. Though it is not yet clear as to how the girl Abitha slipped into the lake, the family members and the local residents alleged that the incident occurred only because of the negligence of the irrigation department officials who failed to put proper fencing to the lake.
The department has called for tenders earlier for putting up fencing at a cost of Rs.5 crore. However, the works could not be taken up due to the reasons best known to officials. The local residents demanded that the administration render justice to the family in the wake of the incident.
