Gig Workers’ Flash Strike Hits Services in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The statewide flash strike by gig and platform workers disrupted services across Hyderabad on Wednesday, with the impact felt most during peak lunch hours. Food delivery executives halted services between 12.30 pm and 2 pm, affecting eateries that rely on heavy sales during rainy weather. Goods delivery operators also boycotted services, while commuters faced long waits and soaring fares on app‑based cab platforms.
Union members visited supply godowns urging workers to join the protest. The strike saw participation from cab drivers, auto drivers, goods transporters and delivery workers associated with Ola, Uber, Rapido, Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto and Blinkit. An IT employee near Wipro Circle said a trip costing Rs 150 in an auto rickshaw ended up costing Rs 600 in a cab due to surge pricing.
