GHMC’s Ward Delimitation Challenged Before the HC
Petitioner challenges boundary changes and renaming of Ramnagar division

Hyderabad: A writ petition was filed before the Telangana High Court challenging the preliminary notification dated December 9, issued by the GHMC on delimitation of divisions. The Telangana High Court will hear the petition on Tuesday.
When the matter was mentioned as a lunch motion on Monday, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy observed that, prima facie, the petitioner may not have strong grounds, but directed the Registry to list the petition in the motion list and adjourned the case to Tuesday.
The petition by C. Vinay Kumar, a resident of Chikkadpally, questioned the proposed merger of certain houses from the existing Ramnagar division, now proposed to be renamed as Bagh Lingampally Division-164, with Adikmet Division-163.
He contended that the revised boundaries were arbitrary and unscientific, as GHMC allegedly ignored long-standing and natural demarcations such as a 30-foot nala and a 100-foot major road, which traditionally served as clear dividing lines. He alleged that his formal objections submitted on December 12 were not considered before proceeding further in the delimitation exercise.
According to the petitioner, the proposed changes would cause public inconvenience by compelling residents to change door numbers and update official records, affecting property tax assessments, emergency services and development planning.
He also opposed the proposed renaming of Ramnagar division, stating that the name had existed for decades and across three GHMC elections, and that another change would create confusion and disturb community harmony.
