GHMC’s Sacred Collection Drive Today

The GHMC said old puja frames, deity photographs, damaged idols and sacred items “should never be discarded carelessly”.

HYDERABAD: The GHMC will conduct Hyderabad’s first sacred collection drive on June 6 to help citizens dispose of old deity photographs, damaged frames, worn‑out idols and other sacred items without sending them into regular waste streams.

The pilot programme will take place from 9 am to 11 am at SB Hall, Iskcon Temple, Banjara Hills. Citizens have been asked to hand over sacred items that are no longer used in worship, so they can be given a traditional farewell through prayers, followed by material recovery and eco‑friendly recycling.

The GHMC said old puja frames, deity photographs, damaged idols and sacred items “should never be discarded carelessly”. The civic body described the drive as a way to link faith with environmental responsibility.

The drive is also part of GHMC’s push for source segregation, cleaner public spaces and responsible waste handling in Hyderabad.
