GHMC Zonal Chiefs Take Charge
New zones to start full operations on Monday

Hyderabad: With the GHMC zonal commissioners formally taking charge in the newly assigned zones on Friday, preparations are underway for the zonal commissionerates to begin full operations from Monday.
According to sources, Friday was spent on the charge-taking ceremonies and initial coordination, but the offices shall remain closed for the day. Following Saturday and Sunday, regular office work will effectively begin from Monday. By then, all required documents, files, furniture and electronic equipment are expected to be shifted to the new zonal offices.
Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, a GHMC official said,” We have assigned teams to handle records and infrastructure shifting. We are ensuring that all files, computers and office essentials are moved by Monday so that there is no disruption to services.”
The creation of new GHMC zones is aimed at improving administration and bringing civic services closer to residents. The Telangana government, in a government order for the fixation of new zones, said that the pre-existing six zones of Charminar, Khairatabad, Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Secunderabad and LB Nagar “experienced a substantial increase in administrative workload”.
Apart from the existing six zones, the government added six more zones across the city with Malkajgiri, Uppal, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Golconda and Quthbullapur zones being developed.
Officials added that internal arrangements, including seating, connectivity and record management, are being finalised over the weekend. Instructions have also been issued to staff to be prepared for duty from Monday without delays.
“We are also preparing ourselves for any problems or delays in work. New divisions and areas are being added to our zone now, so things can get a little confusing for both officials and people, and we are preparing for it”, an official said.
Sambasiva Rao, a resident of Jeedimetla who was at the zonal commissioner office at Quthbullapur, said, “I wanted to know which division my house in Jeedimetla falls under. I’m hoping the administrative works and developmental works will be easier with much more consolidated zones.”
With the zones being decided and the zonal commissioners in place, locals believe decision-making will become quicker and local issues can be addressed more efficiently.
