GHMC, Water Board on Rain Alert
On Saturday, monsoon emergency teams and Disaster Response Force (DRF) units were deployed across the city. Simultaneously, GHMC and HYDRAA officials monitored waterlogging-prone locations and worked to clear clogged drains to maintain smooth water flow.

Hyderabad: With heavy inflows into the twin reservoirs — Osmansagar and Himayatsagar — and stormwater drains running full due to continuous rainfall, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have ramped up preparedness to tackle potential emergencies, particularly in low-lying areas and areas near waterbodies.
As a part of the exercise, HMWS&SB has deployed patrolling teams near vulnerable zones around the twin reservoirs and is preparing to issue alerts if gate openings become necessary. “Though the reservoirs are receiving abundant inflows, there is no immediate need to open the gates. However, our teams are on standby. Residents will be alerted through announcements following a reconnaissance of the surrounding areas,” said an HMWS&SB official.
The GHMC has identified community halls for emergency rehabilitation and coordinated with food suppliers and NGOs to ensure timely support. “People in low-lying areas will be shifted to these shelters if required. Food and other essentials are being arranged,” said a GHMC official speaking about the rehabilitation of people living near low-lying areas.

GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel, particularly through low-lying or waterlogged areas and to make use of emergency helplines. He advised residents to remain cautious near construction sites, open drains and manholes and to avoid parking vehicles under trees or near unstable structures.
The GHMC stated that regular updates will be shared through its official communication channels and appealed to citizens to stay alert and informed during the ongoing monsoon spell.
