GHMC to Hold Special Meet on Merger

The objections and suggestions will be examined and those found suitable will be incorporated and necessary changes will be made.

Hyderabad: The GHMC said it would hold a special meeting to discuss the merger of 20 municipalities and seven municipal corporations with itself. On Thursday, a BJP delegation met GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan and submitted a memorandum opposing the merger and alleging that the the AIMIM has influenced the Congress with regard to delimitation.

Meanwhile, reception centres have been set up at the GHMC head office, circle and zonal offices to collect objections and suggestions pertaining to delimitation of divisions. Over 60 complaints have been received so far, most of them with regard to fixing of boundaries of the new divisions.

The objections and suggestions will be examined and those found suitable will be incorporated and necessary changes will be made.

The GHMC has released the names of 300 divisions in its new jurisdiction, which has extended its footprint from 650 square kilometres to 2,000 square kilometres. While 150 division are of the erstwhile corporation, the remaining are of the merged entities.

Keesara, Pedda Amberpet, Narsingi, and Kokapet are some of the new divisions that are now part of the extended GHMC.
