GHMC Flags Meat Shops, Hotels In Rise Of Dog Attacks
“Some establishments dump food regularly and then suddenly stop. We have observed that dogs, which had become accustomed to eating this dumped food, turn aggressive and have attacked children out of hunger”: GHMC official

HYDERABAD: The GHMC has identified that several establishments selling non-vegetarian food, including chicken, mutton, and beef, are contributing to the increasing number of dog bite incidents. These establishments include both raw meat shops and hotels.
As of June this year, 5,419 establishments were served notices, instructing them to dispose of food and meat waste in accordance with proper norms. “Some establishments dump food regularly and then suddenly stop. We have observed that dogs, which had become accustomed to eating this dumped food, turn aggressive and have attacked children out of hunger,” said a GHMC official.
In addition, GHMC officials stated that 7,127 water bowls have been placed at selected locations across the city for stray dogs. According to GHMC data, 47,073 sterilisations have been conducted under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, along with 7,973 additional sterilisations carried out by Animal Welfare Organisations (AWOs) during the 2024–25 period (up to June).
