Hyderabad:The GHMC on Saturday carried out a special drive to remove encroachments at six locations, clearing 653 structures — 165 permanent and 488 temporary. On the Badangpet municipal office crossroads to Adibatla HMWS&SB pump house stretch, 101 permanent and 222 temporary encroachments were removed. Along Aramgarh to Pillar Nos. 252 to 116 (right side), 19 permanent and 83 temporary structures were cleared.

Other locations included Mehdipatnam Circle Office towards Yadav Bhavan crossroads to Pillar No. 168, and Guddimalkapur, where 13 permanent and 111 temporary encroachments were removed. At Kachiguda Junction, from Maheshwari Parameshwari Theatre via Sultan Bazaar police station to Andhra Bank signal, 32 permanent and 28 temporary structures were cleared.

From Gandhi Hospital to Padmaraonagar Colony Park and surrounding areas, 44 temporary encroachments were pulled down. Officials said similar drives will continue across GHMC limits.

“GHMC is committed to maintaining encroachment‑free roads and improving urban mobility for all citizens,” said commissioner R.V. Karnan. He urged citizens and shopkeepers not to encroach on footpaths or road margins, warning that violations would be removed departmentally.

The drive began at 7 am with police support. GHMC staff, assisted by traffic police, cleared temporary sheds, boxes, and shop extensions from footpaths. Heavy vehicles were deployed to demolish both temporary and permanent encroachments on busy roads that had become unusable for pedestrians.
