GHMC Deploys 14,486 Staff For Ganesh Immersion

To manage the massive civic operations, 13 control rooms and 160 Ganesh Action Teams (GATs) will be stationed along the various procession routes that total 303.3 km.

Hyderabad: The GHMC has deployed 14,486 sanitation workers deployed in three shifts, supported by 134 static cranes, 269 mobile cranes, nine boats, 16 Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams and 200 swimmers for the Ganesh idol immersion festivities.

To manage the massive civic operations, 13 control rooms and 160 Ganesh Action Teams (GATs) will be stationed along the various procession routes that total 303.3 km.

Each GAT will comprise sanitation workers, labourers and a supervisor under the monitoring of an assistant medical officer of health (AMOH). Of the total sanitation workforce, 2,000 are sweepers, and the teams will be equipped with 102 mini tippers and 125 heavy vehicles, including JCBs.

With lakhs of devotees expected at Hussainsagar and other immersion points, 309 mobile toilets are being installed and five lakh trash bags will be distributed to maintain cleanliness on the routes.

The GHMC has also distributed two lakh eco-friendly clay idols and taken up temporary lighting, tree pruning, road repairs, medical camps, and anti-larval measures as part of the preparations. Officials said the arrangements are being carried out in coordination with the police, traffic police, HYDRAA, irrigation, water board, electricity, fire, information and public relations and health departments.

“Ganesh idol immersion is not just a ritual, but a collective responsibility,” GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan said. “With the dedicated efforts of GHMC and allied departments, we are committed to making it safe and seamless for every citizen.”

Immersions will be conducted at 20 major lakes, including Hussain Sagar, and at 74 artificial ponds across the city.
