Unrealistic: GHMC Budget for 2025-26 not approved

GIS survey found GHMC area has 24 lakh houses

Hyderabad: The Rs 8,340-crore Budget estimate of the GHMC for the 2025-26 fiscal year was not approved by the corporation’s standing committee on Saturday, with members calling it unrealistic. The 15-member standing committee has eight BRS and seven AIMIM corporators, with the Mayor from the Congress chairing the meeting. The members pointed out that the income of the GHMC estate and advertisement wings was undervalued in the Budget estimates.

Mayor G. Vijayalakshmi suggested to commissioner K. Ilambarithi prepare the Budget by reducing unnecessary expenditure and increasing revenues. GHMC's additional commissioner of finance Geetha Radhika tried to answer the questions posed by standing committee members, but in vain.
BJP corporators, though they are not a part of the committee, visited the GHMC head office and expressed their dissent when the meeting was underway. They held placards and protested, alleging Congress, AIMIM and BRS have a secret friendship.
“After we questioned the friendship between three parties, raised several questions and gave representation to the commissioner, the Budget was halted. Approving the Budget would expose their friendship,” claimed Koppula Narsimha Reddy, BJP corporator from Mansoorabad. It has been decided that another meeting will be held on December 9 to discuss and approve the Budget, which will have carry the modifications suggested by GHMC standing committee member.
Commissioner Ilambarithi said that development works would continue as revenue sources are increasing. He informed the committee that one of the components of the GIS survey, taken up for better urban planning and enhanced municipal services, has been completed and the GHMC area was found to have a total of 24 lakh houses. Among them, 1.25 lakh houses have been covered as part of the physical survey, another component of the GIS survey.
