GHMC Adopts New Technology to Boost Services

To ensure accurate attendance, AI-based facial recognition has been introduced for employees at GHMC’s head office.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is embracing new technologies through its IT wing to enhance urban governance, improve transparency, and better serve citizens.

Alongside citizen-focused initiatives, GHMC is also implementing technological tools internally to boost accountability. Field inspections of officials will now be monitored using geo-tagged photographs, while a new Comprehensive Challan Management System (CCMS) will streamline the handling of sanitation challans.

To ensure accurate attendance, AI-based facial recognition has been introduced for employees at GHMC’s head office. Additionally, a Geographic Information System (GIS) is being deployed to precisely map assets such as parks, public toilets and streetlights, enabling more efficient urban planning.

A visitor management system has also been launched to track daily visitors at GHMC offices. Looking ahead, GHMC plans to pilot a project in collaboration with Google that uses Generative AI to address key civic issues.

“These initiatives demonstrate GHMC’s commitment to leveraging technology for the public good, making governance more transparent, responsive, and citizen-friendly,” said GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan.
