Man Gets Life Term for Killing Woman in Miyapur

Ranga Reddy court convicts 26-year-old for 2022 knife attack; victim’s mother succumbed to injuries, accused also gets 10 years for attempt to murder

Hyderabad: A sessions court has sentenced a 26-year-old man to life imprisonment for the murder of a woman and the attempted murder of her daughter in Miyapur in 2022.

The accused, Yeddu Sandeep Kumar alias Bablu, a native of Kolluru village in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, was convicted under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), and 452 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code.

The XII Additional Sessions Court at LB Nagar awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000 for the offence of murder. The court also sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000 for attempt to murder, and three months of simple imprisonment with a fine of ₹5,000 for house trespass.

According to police, the incident occurred on December 13, 2022, when the accused attacked his former partner N. Vaibhavi and her mother, N. Shobha, at their residence. The accused allegedly harassed Vaibhavi for years after their relationship ended, suspecting her character and continuing to send threats despite being blocked.

On the day of the incident, he went to her house armed with a knife and attacked both women. While neighbours intervened and shifted them to hospital, Shobha succumbed to her injuries the next day.

Police said the accused planned the attack after learning about Vaibhavi’s engagement following her family’s move to Hyderabad.

He was arrested on December 23, 2022, and a charge sheet was filed after investigation. Following a full trial, the court convicted him and imposed the sentence.
