HYDERABAD: The Hare Krishna Golden Temple in Banjara Hills celebrated Gaura Purnima, marking the appearance of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who was born in 1486 at Navadweep, Mayapur. The celebrations were considered special as Gaura Purnima coincided with the lunar eclipse, similar to the celestial event believed to have taken place at the time of Lord Chaitanya’s birth 540 years ago.
Following traditional Shastric rules, temple authorities conducted darshan and festivities after the eclipse ended and purification rituals were completed. The temple premises were ceremonially cleansed before devotees were allowed entry.
A special decoration of the deities was arranged, and devotees offered Chappan Bhog, consisting of 56 varieties of food items. A nine-hour Akhanda Harinam Sankirtan filled the temple with devotional singing. Later, a grand Pallaki Utsavam of Sri Gaura Nitai and Srila Prabhupada was held, followed by the 108 Kalasha Maha Abhishekam performed with fruit juices and sacred substances.
Temple president Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa encouraged devotees to chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra daily. The celebrations ended with Maha Mangala Arati and distribution of prasadam to all attendees.
