Ganja Suppliers Stab Police Personnel, Set Their Dog On Raiding Party In Fathenagar, Balanagar

Hyderabad: Alleged ganja suppliers stabbed police personnel and set their dog on a raiding party in Fathenagar and Balanagar, and attempted to escape, police said on Thursday. The raiding team contained Cyberabad EAGLE Force and Hyderabad Narcotics Bureau teams. Despite the attack, officials overpowered the accused — Durga Prasad, Ravi, Kamlakar and Kiran .

Police were raiding a gang on suspicion of smuggling of bulk quantity of ganja from Odissa for sale in the city over four months. Police also seized 17.8 grams of ganja, identified 29 consumers, and arrested alleged peddler Kaliwala Ajay, a fruit vendor in Fathenagar. His 78-year-old grandmother Chandramma escaped, police said.

During the operation, police intercepted 31 persons who had arrived from different parts of the city to purchase ganja from the gang. They were subjected to a narco tests in which 29 tested positive for drug consumption. Three were found carrying small packets of the drug, said EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya.

Police said Chandramma was suspected of selling five-gram ganja packets for `500 each outside her residence. Officials said the arrested consumers, most of them around 25 years old, admitted to being addicted to the drug for more than two years.

During questioning, they reportedly revealed that Fathenagar, Nanakramguda and Dhoolpet were among the major supply points for marijuana in the city.
