Ganga Aarti at Saraswati Pushkaralu Sparks Interest

Pandits from Kashi perform ritual rooted in the Vedas; nine aartis performed at Kaleshwaram ghats

Hyderabad: The aarti, performed by Pandits from Kashi, during the Saraswati Pushkaralu on the banks of the Godavari River at the popular Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Temple, has turned out to be a unique ritual due to its deep Vedic roots and its spiritual grandeur.

The Pandits have been conducting Saraswati Aarti and Godavari River Aarti rituals daily at the Triveni Sangamam, blending centuries-old Vedic chanting, precise ritual choreography, and the use of traditional sacred items like multi-tiered lamps, conch shells, and incense.

Nine different kinds of Aarti are performed by the Pandits during 35 minutes. It would include synchronised chanting of Vedic mantras that invoke divine blessings on the Saraswati river and the confluence, enhancing the sanctity of the Pushkaralu, which conclude on Monday.

The nine Aartis in the Saraswati Navaratna Mala Aarti include Omkara Aarti, Naga Aarti, Pancha Aarti, Surya Aarti, Chandra Aarti, Nandi Aarti, Simha Aarti, Kumbha Aarti and Nakshatra Aarti.

The ritual’s elaborate use of lamps, camphor flames, and conch blowing creates a mesmerising and immersive spiritual ambiance at the Triveni Sangam, which is considered a sacred confluence of three rivers, including the invisible Saraswati.

Several traditional musical instruments such as ghanta, manjira, shanku and tabla are used to enhance the devotional atmosphere and spiritual energy of the ritual.
