Ganesh Pandal DJ System Volume Rules Ignored in Erstwhile Nizamabad District

To curb sound pollution during the Ganesh festivities, police in erstwhile Nizamabad district have intensified their raids after complaints of their adverse effect on kids and the elderly people.

There are limits on the sound decibel limits, typically ranging from 40 to 75 decibels (dB) depending on the zone and time of day. However, DJ setups at Ganesh pandals often go above 100 dB. Following directives from higher-ups and as per Supreme Court guidelines, police are strictly preventing use of DJ systems at high volumes in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts.

Kamareddy superintendent of police M. Rajesh Chandra has conducted a special review on the arrangements at Ganesh pandals across the district. He has directed police officers and personnel to visit every Ganesh pandal daily and inspect various arrangements, including security.

Rajesh Chandra has reiterated that DJ systems at high volumes are not permitted during Ganesh celebrations as per Supreme Court guidelines and existing regulations. Police officials have asked festival committees to abide by the guidelines. The SP has warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators of rules. Three DJ equipment and vehicles used for transportation have already been seized for violating rules.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kamareddy deputy superintendent of police S. Madhusudan said organisers have been requested to conduct their festivities in a traditional manner with devotional fervour by engaging local artistes. However, serious action will be initiated if regulations with regard to sound levels are violated, he warned.

People have been advised not to use DJ systems at high volumes, as excessive noise can cause inconvenience to elderly persons suffering from chronic illnesses and young children.

The use of DJ sound systems is completely prohibited between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Prior police permission is mandatory for using sound systems.
