Gandhi’s Journalistic Views Discussed at MANUU

Hyderabad: Journalism as a mission to connect governments with people, rooted in Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of truth and non-violence, was the focus of the 45th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Gandhian Studies (ISGS) at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU). The three-day event, organised by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism in collaboration with ISGS, centred on “Mahatma Gandhi’s Journalism and its Relevance in the Modern Era.”

Prof. R. Dwivedi, former director of Gandhian Studies at Kashi Vidyapeeth, said it was the responsibility of the East to maintain world peace and India can play a leading role in establishing world peace in the light of Mahatma Gandhi's ideas. According to him, Gandhiji wanted to propagate non-violence through journalism.

Further, Prof. Satish Kumar Rai, president of ISGS, stated, “Mahatma Gandhi is not only the past but also the future. He was a believer in differences. But he believed in the formula of resolving differences through mutual dialogue.”

The inaugural session also included addresses by MANUU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Dr Shahnawaz Alam of the Unity and Peace Foundation Bihar and Dr Saima Suhrawardy. Dr Mohd Mustafa Ali Sarwari delivered the opening remarks, while Prof. Mohammad Fariyad welcomed the guests. Prof. Sita Ram Chaudhry proposed the vote of thanks, and Meraj Ahmed conducted the proceedings.
