Gandhi Hospital Named Telangana Referral Centre For Suspected Ebola Cases

“In case of suspected infections, testing kits would be procured either from the National Institute of Virology, Pune, or through virology departments within the state”: Dr Vani

HYDERABAD: Gandhi Hospital has been designated as the referral centre for Ebola cases in Telangana, where a temporary isolation facility with 20 beds, equipped with oxygen and ventilator support, has been set up. Hospital superintendent Dr N. Vani told Deccan Chronicle that the arrangements were made in line with protocols issued by the Union health ministry.

“Similar to the Covid-19 preparedness protocols, we have established the isolation centre in the disaster management section, which will soon be shifted to the second floor for better isolation management,” she said. The hospital has also appointed Dr Vamshi Krishna as the nodal officer for Ebola preparedness and coordination.

Dr Vani said the state was screening arrivals at the Shamshabad airport. “In case of suspected infections, testing kits would be procured either from the National Institute of Virology, Pune, or through virology departments within the state,” she added.

Meanwhile, authorities at the Shamshabad airport have intensified health surveillance measures and are continuously updating travellers through advisories on social media platform X. According to the airport advisory, passengers arriving from Ebola-affected African countries including Uganda, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, or having travelled through those countries in the recent past, are being monitored closely.
