The state government on Thursday issued orders stating that February 4 be observed annually as "Telangana Social Justice Day" to commemorate the passage of the caste census and SC sub-classification reports in the Legislative Assembly on this day.

Hyderabad:The state government on Thursday issued orders stating that February 4 be observed annually as "Telangana Social Justice Day" to commemorate the passage of the caste census and SC sub-classification reports in the Legislative Assembly on this day.

In recognition of the government's commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusive development, February 4 will be marked each year with official ceremonies, awareness programmes, lectures, and cultural events, the orders issued by Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari said.

It may be recalled that the Congress-led government in Telangana has promised to conduct caste census and undertake SC sub-classification if it is voted to power in Telangana during 2023 Assembly polls.

Accordingly, the state government initiated steps to conduct caste census and undertake SC sub-categorisation. It conducted a caste census between November-December 2024 and appointed a one-man judicial commission in November 2024 to submit a report on SC sub-classification.

The government received caste census and SC sub-categorisation reports on February 2 and 3 this year. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy immediately convened a special session of Legislative Assembly on February 4, tabled the resolutions in the House seeking approval for both the reports. The House approved both the resolutions by a voice-vote on February 4.
