Peddapalli Man Promises Girlfriend an iPhone, Ends Up in Ganja Peddling

Hyderabad: The EAGLE Force arrested a 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman for allegedly transporting 12 kg of marijuana worth around Rs. 6 lakh from Odisha to Hyderabad.

According to reports, the accused, Mitra Chaitanya and Hemalatha, both residents of Peddapalli, were known to each other. Chaitanya allegedly promised Hemalatha that he would buy her an iPhone as a birthday gift. In an attempt to raise money for the purchase, the duo allegedly decided to get involved in drug peddling.

The two travelled to Pasupulanka in Odisha and stayed there for around five days before procuring the marijuana. They allegedly purchased 12 kg of marijuana from a person identified as Bhagavan Hantal for Rs. 16,000 and later began their journey to Hyderabad on a Pulsar motorcycle.

The duo was intercepted by Wyra police and EAGLE Force personnel. When they allegedly attempted to escape, they rammed their motorcycle into a police vehicle, resulting in minor injuries to an SI. During the search, police recovered 12 kg of marijuana, estimated to be worth Rs. 6 lakh.

Police said Chaitanya had three previous cases related to ganja transportation registered against him at Peddapalli, Uppal and Medchal police stations. He was released from jail on April 30, 2026.

According to police, Chaitanya had allegedly made a deal with Shashi and Nagur, residents of Karimnagar and Peddapalli, to procure marijuana from Odisha and supply it to them. Shashi and Nagur are currently absconding. The alleged supplier, Bhagavan Hantal, is also reportedly absconding.

Police said Chaitanya's movements had appeared suspicious, following which they kept him under surveillance. The investigation is underway to trace the absconding accused and identify others involved in the alleged drug network.
