Free Surgeries for Acid Attack Survivors

The programme was unveiled on the sidelines of the FUE Asia Regional Conference here on Saturday.

Hyderabad:Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Asia has announced that it would provide free hair restoration and plastic surgeries worth up to ₹5 lakh for acid attack survivors and accident victims with disfiguring injuries. The programme was unveiled on the sidelines of the FUE Asia Regional Conference here on Saturday.

Dr Rajetha Damisetty, organising president of the conference, said the effort went beyond cosmetic correction. “Survivors of acid attacks and major accidents often live with lifelong scars that deeply affect their confidence and social life. This programme is aimed at restoring dignity and hope through ethical, safe and completely free medical and surgical care,” she said.

Beneficiaries can apply directly through the FUE Asia website, while doctors from government and teaching hospitals may refer deserving patients for evaluation.

Dr. Kavish Chauhan, founder and secretary of FUE Asia, said the initiative was part of 'Operation Hope', a global humanitarian programme focusing on patients suffering from secondary cicatricial alopecia caused by burns and trauma. “This is not charity as an afterthought but a responsibility. Qualified dermatologists and plastic surgeons from India and abroad are coming together to offer their expertise free of cost to those who need it the most,” he said.

He added the initiative seeks to protect patients from unsafe and unqualified practices by ensuring access to scientifically sound and ethically regulated treatment.

Officials noted that 'Operation Hope' had delivered more than 44 free services across Asia since 2024, and the Telangana launch marked its first structured rollout in the state. Government medical colleges in Telangana can also refer victims for free surgeries and related treatments.

The programme combines reconstructive surgery, hair transplantation, and laser treatments at no cost to patients, forming part of FUE Asia’s broader mission to promote patient safety and ethical medical practice.
