Hyderabad: The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) said it had provided free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines to 200 female students of its Allied Health Sciences College on Tuesday with the support of the Digumarthi Foundation. The vaccination drive aims to protect young women from HPV; a virus associated with several types of cancers.

The programme was inaugurated by Nims dean Dr Chandrasekhar, who appreciated the efforts of the Digumarthi Foundation and its representatives, Dr Raghunath Rao, a former Nims faculty member, and Dr Neela, for their continued contribution towards cancer prevention and treatment.

TSUTF demands cancellation of transfer orders issued to KGBV special officers

Hyderabad: The TSUTF has demanded cancellation of transfer orders issued to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) special officers in Jangaon district, alleging that the district education officer (DEO) acted outside the rules and linked contract renewal to transfer options.

State president Chava Ravi and general secretary A. Venkat said KGBV contract staff should have been renewed from April. Instead, they alleged, special officers were forced to submit transfer options if they wanted their contracts renewed, and orders were issued on Tuesday.

The union said preparations were under way to transfer postgraduate contract resident teachers. A written test has been conducted for them, it said. Staff were worried because no other district has followed this practice, TSUTF said.
