Four Workers Injured, Two Critical, as Roof Slab Collapses at BRS MLA's Anurag University
Two of the workers are reportedly in critical condition.

Hyderabad:Four construction workers from Odisha were injured, two of them critically, after a portion of an under-construction building’s roof slab collapsed inside Anurag University in Medchal district on Saturday morning. The university is owned by BRS Jangaon legislator Palla Rajeshwar Reddy.
The collapse took place on the university’s Venkatapur campus, within the limits of the Pocharam police station. According to preliminary information, the labourers were engaged in regular construction work when a section of the reinforced concrete slab gave way. Police said the cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained.
The injured workers were rushed to a nearby hospital owned by the same management. Two of them, said to be in critical condition, are undergoing treatment in the emergency ward.
Medchal police registered a case soon after the incident and have begun investigating the circumstances that led to the structural failure. Family members of the workers were informed and have since reached the hospital.
This is not the first time the university has drawn public attention. Local residents and student groups had earlier raised complaints alleging that new constructions inside the campus were being carried out on full tank level (FTL) land, areas legally restricted due to their proximity to water bodies. Despite repeated representations, no concrete action was taken, they said.
A civil engineer familiar with urban construction practices in Hyderabad said, “Slab collapses usually point to lapses in either material quality or supervision. If these buildings are being raised without proper structural checks or permissions, the consequences can be life-threatening.”
The management has not issued an official statement so far, and access to the site remains restricted. Police are continuing their inquiry into whether safety protocols were followed and if clearances were in place for the construction underway.
