Four Women Stable After C-Section Complications
Three women were shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims), Hyderabad. Of them, two have been discharged, while one is in the general ward.
HYDERABAD: Four of the five women who developed serious complications after Caesarean sections at the Government Mother and Child Hospital (MCH), Banswada, Kamareddy district, on July 10 and 11 are stable, senior health officials said.
Three women were shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims), Hyderabad. Of them, two have been discharged, while one is in the general ward. The remaining two are under treatment at Government General Hospital, Nizamabad, and are reported stable.
An official inquiry was ordered, and a team of senior health officials inspected the hospital on July 14. Since the patients had already been moved to Nims, the matter came to light later. Doctors at NIMS declined to comment on the nature of the complications.
Dr M. Vijay Bhaskar, superintendent of MCH, said 12 surgeries — 10 C-sections and two appendectomies — were performed on July 10 and 11. He dismissed rumours about poor services, noting that the hospital handles about 350 deliveries a month and was recently recognised during the health department’s ‘99 Programme’ celebrations.
The first patient developed complications around midnight on July 10 and was referred to Nizamabad. Four more were shifted over the next two days with low urine output and other issues. They were later referred to NIMS for advanced care.
Swab samples from the operation theatre tested negative for contamination, and intravenous fluids given to the patients were confirmed sterile. Investigations into the cause of the complications are continuing.
