Suryapet police nab 4 suspects of honour killing

Suryapet: Suryapet police have reportedly taken four persons into custody in connection with the suspected honour killing of 32-year-old V. Krishna. The incident, which occurred in Suryapet on Sunday night, has drawn widespread attention and outrage. Krishna married Bhargavi six months ago after falling in love with her, against the wishes of her family members. Theirs was an inter-caste marriage.
The arrests were made based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, David. Among those detained are Bhargavi's brothers Kotla Saidulu, Kotla Naveen and Kotla Vamshee and their associate Bairu Mahesh. They have been charged under sections 103(1), 61(2) read with 3(5) of the BNS and section (3)(2)(V) of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Dalit organisations staged a dharna at the main center in Suryapet, demanding stern action against the accused. Police sources revealed that the four suspects were being interrogated. A formal announcement of their arrest is likely to be made during a media briefing on Wednesday.
The accused have reportedly confessed to their involvement, revealing that Bhargavi's family took Mahesh’s help to lure Krishna to an isolated location. Mahesh invited Krishna to consume toddy on Sunday evening. Once there, Krishna was strangled and his head smashed with a boulder.
Investigations also uncovered that the accused had previously attempted to attack Krishna a week earlier but failed due to his alertness. Despite this, they persisted with their plans. The case has sparked outrage in the region, and several organisations called for justice.
