Forum seeks status of state finance commission’s reports

Hyderabad:The Forum for Good Governance (FGG) urged the Governor to direct the Chief Secretary to take action on the state finance commission reports and seek action taken reports (ATRs) and place them in the coming Assembly session.

In a letter addressed to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, forum president M. Padmanabha Reddy pointed out that the government has not taken any action on the finance commission recommendations for nine years, nor had it placed its reports in the legislature.

He pointed out that the commission had sent its study report on the financial position of the local bodies to the Governor, who in turn sent the same to the government for action on the recommendations of SFC.

Reddy pointed out that the 15th Central Finance Commission said that no grants will be released to gram panchayats (GPs) after March 2024 if Telangana does not constitute a state finance commission. The state government has not released any funds to GPs in the last two years and as a result they were getting funds from the central government.
