Hyderabad:Former BRS MLA from Bodhan Mohammed Shakil alias Shakil Ahmed was arrested from his residence in Jubilee Hills for allegedly facilitating his son’s escape to Dubai following a high-profile hit-and-run incident. On January 24 last year, Shakil’s son, Mohammed Amir Raheel, rammed his BMW into a barricade near Praja Bhavan.
A day later, on January 25, acting on his father's instructions, Amir fled to Dubai along with his associates Zakria, Arbaz and Shahed. During the investigation, Panjagutta police issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against the former MLA, his son and three aides. A major breakthrough in the case was achieved after analysing their call data records (CDRs).
On January 26, police arrested Bodhan inspector Prem Kumar and Shakil’s aide Abdul Wassay for allegedly aiding Amir’s escape and shielding him from arrest, said Panjagutta SHO Bandari Shobhan. The investigation officers uncovered that former Panjagutta SHO B. Durga Rao, acting on Shakil’s instructions, falsely implicated Amir’s driver, Mohammed Asif, in the case. Following a detailed inquiry conducted by west zone DCP S. M. Vijay, Durga Rao was suspended by the Police Commissioner. Shakil was later granted bail on medical grounds by the Nampally court, the SHO confirmed.
