Forest Department Plans Paragliding at Khandala Valley
Forest dept plans eco-tourism boost with paragliding, culture, and village stays

Adilabad: The forest department is planning to introduce paragliding at Khandala Valley in Adilabad Rural mandal as part of its eco-tourism initiative to attract tourists and adventure sports enthusiasts, while also promoting exploration of the Khandala ghats and valley.
Paragliding experts, along with forest officials, have identified the Khandala Valley as a suitable location. Generally, paragliders take off from a hill or mountain, and the plateau on the nearby hillock has been selected as the take-off point. The valley’s lush greenery, foggy climate, and cool weather from November to February already draw many visitors.
To boost tourism further, the department is planning to organise a ‘Khandala Tourism Week’, featuring paragliding, cultural programmes, interaction with local Adivasi communities, and village night stays. The initiative is also part of a larger tourism circuit being developed in Adilabad, covering waterfalls, river rafting, ghats, and valleys.
P. Santhosh, FRO of Indravelli, said paragliding will likely begin in the first week of November under the supervision of DFO Prashanth Bajirao Patil. He noted that paragliding, being a wind-based adventure sport, is well-suited to the valley. He added that the local economy would benefit only if tourists spend several days in the area, enjoying its natural beauty and adventure activities.
Plans are also underway to construct a watchtower at Khandala ghats for sightseeing and trekking. The Adilabad forest department has already purchased large tents for adventure sports events. Located just 22 km from Adilabad town, Khandala Valley has good road connectivity.
Officials added that local Adivasi youth could gain employment opportunities by offering services to the growing number of tourists.
