Food Safety Raids Expose Hygiene Violations in Hyderabad
Officials said separate notices will be served for the observed violations, with directions to rectify the deficiencies and improve food safety and hygiene practices

Hyderabad: The food safety teams from Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal corporations conducted separate raids and found several hygiene and food safety deficiencies.
The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) food safety officers conducted an inspection at Varnam near Genpact Lane, Hafeezpet to review food hygiene and safety practices. They observed water stagnation and food waste in drains, iron knives and no pallets in use, required medical, food testing, water testing and packaging records were unavailable.
Refrigerator was not properly cleaned or sorted, with water leakage observed, semi-prepared and prepared foods were not labeled and dust was noticed on the ceiling and greasy exhausts in addition to fungus on cauliflower and spoiled cabbage and potatoes were not sorted.
Meanwhile, the food safety officers of Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation carried out raids at Landmaark restaurant in Ramanthapur
They found that the FSSAI licence was not displayed at a prominent location, adequate lighting was not provided on the premises and walls and ceilings were found to be smoky and greasy.
The drainage system was not properly maintained, and cockroach traps were not provided. The food waste was not removed periodically, resulting in accumulation. The floor was slippery due to food waste and the rat faeces were observed in the storeroom.
Stale chicken and mutton were found stored in the refrigerator and required pest control records and documents were not maintained.
The inspection highlights the importance of maintaining proper food hygiene, sanitation, pest control, waste management, and safe food storage practices.
In a separate raid at Biottic Foods Private Limited in Uppal, the officials noticed that the cold storage room used for ice cream was unhygienic. Freezers required proper defrosting and maintenance and ice-cream products were stored in an improper and unorganised manner.
The raw pressery alphonso mango fruit drink was found with visible fungal growth and cobwebs were observed throughout the premises, indicating inadequate cleaning. Cleaning was not being carried out as per the prescribed schedule and the cold room floor was found to be slippery.
Some products had leakage and dust accumulation on their outer packaging. Officials said separate notices will be served for the observed violations, with directions to rectify the deficiencies and improve food safety and hygiene practices.
