Five Singareni Mines Awarded 5‑Star Rating
Mines scoring above 90 per cent in the assessment are designated 5‑star after on‑site verification by expert teams from the CCO

HYDERABAD: Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has got national recognition with five of its mines awarded the prestigious 5‑star rating in the Central government’s annual best‑mine selection for 2024–25, officials said on Friday.
The Coal Controller Organisation (CCO), under the Union coal ministry, conducted the nationwide assessment this year from 382 applicants and selected 50 mines for the 5‑star distinction. From SCCL, R.K. Newtech and R.K.‑6 (Srirampur area), J.V.R. OC‑2 (Sattupalli area), Khairiguda open cast (Bellampalli area) and R.G. OC‑1 (Ramagundam‑3 area) mines have been selected as top performers.
The selection is based on performance across 50 parameters grouped into seven categories, including mine working practices, use of extraction technology, financial health, worker welfare, community development in adjacent villages, safety and security measures for labour, and environmentally sustainable practices. Mines scoring above 90 per cent in the assessment are designated 5‑star after on‑site verification by expert teams from the CCO.
Officials said the inspection team recently carried out field visits to verify the information submitted by the company before declaring the awards. The company described the honours as recognition of its strong performance in operations, worker safety, welfare initiatives and environment‑friendly measures.
This year’s haul is notable for SCCL as five mines achieved five‑star status compared with four last year, marking the highest number in the company’s history for the assessment period. In addition, 17 Singareni mines secured 4‑star ratings.
Deputy Chief Minister and energy minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka congratulated the SCCL management, mine officials and workers for the achievement. He lauded the company’s sustained training, safety and welfare programmes and its role in supplying coal to meet the state’s needs safely. He urged other mines to emulate these best practices and expressed hope that more Singareni mines will earn 5‑star ratings in future assessments.
