Five Killed In Separate Road Mishaps

A car allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner mowed down three persons on Sunday evening

At least five persons died and two others sustained injuries in separate road accidents reported from Siddipet district and Hyderabad on Sunday, exposing yet another day of fatalities on the state’s roads.

In the most tragic incident at Duddeda village in Siddipet district, a car allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner mowed down three persons on Sunday evening. According to Siddipet III Town police, the accident occurred when the driver swerved sharply to avoid hitting Kandugula Radha, 50, a mentally unstable woman attempting to cross the road. The vehicle instead rammed into Kemmasaram Laxmi, 55, a daily wage labourer sitting outside her house, and her 10‑year‑old granddaughter Kemmasaram Sahaja, who was playing nearby.

Police said the driver, in panic, pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the car to hit the minor girl and drag her nearly 200 metres before crashing into a roadside pillar. All three victims succumbed to injuries. Their bodies were shifted to the government hospital mortuary. A drunken driving test on the driver returned negative. A case was registered under BNS section 106(1).

Drug network busted in Madhapur

Madhapur police, in coordination with the Kukatpally special operations team, busted a drug distribution and consumption network operating from an apartment in Chandra Naik Thanda and apprehended a 22‑year‑old alleged peddler. Based on credible information received on Saturday, police raided the apartment and found Dhanekula Tharun Teja, a resident of Vijayawada, in possession of prohibited narcotic and psychotropic substances.

During the search, police seized 15 grams of MDMA, 382 grams of OG Kush ganja, nine mobile phones, two weighing machines, and drug consumption materials and packing articles. Investigators said Teja allegedly procured MDMA and OG Kush ganja from suppliers in Vijayawada for sale in Hyderabad. Two alleged suppliers, Karthik and Pruthvi, both residents of Vijayawada, have been identified as absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.

Police also found eight young individuals, reportedly job aspirants, allegedly consuming prohibited substances inside the apartment. They disclosed during questioning that they had been procuring drugs from Teja for personal use.

The investigation is continuing to identify the source of procurement, trace the absconding accused and uncover the complete supply network. Police urged youth and students to stay away from narcotic substances.
