First Women-Run Fuel Station to Open in Sangareddy
Training for the women staff is now complete, and they stand ready to welcome the district’s motorists when operations commence next month.

Sangareddy: A fuel filling station in Sangareddy district will soon be operated entirely by self-help group (SHG) members. Scheduled to open in the first week of May on the bypass road, the station will be managed by Zilla Mahila Samakhya (ZMS), with all profits reinvested into a corpus fund for SHG loans.
The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has leased 0.08 guntas of land at the old DRDA office premises (survey no. 374/1) to ZMS under the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme. A team of 16 women — aged 18 to 35 and selected on the basis of educational qualifications ranging from intermediate to graduate — will staff the station as managers, supervisors and attendants in round-the-clock shifts.
The initiative was championed by SERP chief executive officer Divya Devarajan and Sangareddy district collector Kranthi Vallur. “This station embodies our commitment to quality fuel services and women’s economic participation,” Devarajan said, emphasising that free air, drinking water, first-aid and washroom facilities will be provided to customers.
According to additional rural development officer K. Janga Reddy, the station is projected to generate around Rs 2.3 lakh in monthly profits, which will be deposited into the ZMS corpus fund. “With 2 lakh women across 18,213 SHGs and 695 village organisations in Sangareddy, this model promises sustainable livelihoods and community development,” he added.
